Welcome, I'm Jennifer Thompson
I am the founder of Inspiring Timeless Beauty, a holistic space for birth related topics.
I am also the mother to four beautiful children. I became a doula long before I even knew the term. As a nurturing person, I have always wanted what was best for those around me. This desire led to my practice as a Full Spectrum Doula, where I can hold space for women throughout their birth journeys; and ensure that they are being protected and heard throughout their childbirth experience.
My primary goal is to help reduce the mortality rate in Black mothers and babies in America. My first three birth experiences were traumatic, to say the least. I did not experience informed care; my body anatomy was not respected; and I just lacked the knowledge to effectively advocate for myself. Specifically for my third baby, I knew something was wrong. I communicated that something was wrong. But I was ignored. I was very in tune with my body and my baby, and could feel my baby was not growing correctly. But I was ignored. More than that, my obstetrician’s response to my concerns was that I was simply wrong.
What followed a pregnancy where my concerns were consistently dismissed by medical professionals, was a delivery that lacked compassion. When I showed up to the hospital in active labor, I refused a second cervical check after just having one done at my OB's office just one hour before. As a result, I was denied care. My partner and I had to drive 45 minutes away to the next hospital, where my partner was then denied access to the empty triage room. I delivered my baby by myself in triage. Worse, the concerns I actively communicated to my obstetrician throughout my pregnancy came back into play postpartum when my baby girl was considered “too small”, resulting in five days in the NICU…
I knew there had to be better care for women during such a sensitive time. So, I began to do my research, where I discovered the term “Doula”. Ever since then, I've been applying myself and educating myself on every aspect of birth support. Now, I strive to make a difference in the birthing world.
For my fourth fourth child in 2021, I felt prepared, educated, powerful, and ready.
I knew the ins and outs at this point, and was confident in my ability to deliver at home. My partner, on the other hand, wanted to ensure the two of us were safe with a hospital birth. I ended up delivering my fourth child in the car on the way to the hospital with very surprised dad. I like to look at this as God's way of compromising on our behalf.
I try to provide every woman with a warm and embracing environment. I believe that everyone deserves to be seen and heard, especially during such a vulnerable moment in their life. I help my clients to feel connected and trusting of their bodies during conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
